WEEK 4

July 2-3

Frostburg- no pick up this week due to the 4th, enjoy your independence! We'll make it up to you.

The weather has been continuing with it's sombre mood with more rain and cool gray weather. Such wet soil is hard to work. We find ourselves scrambling as soon as it dries out enough to get some plants in, get some weeds out or plant seeds. This week we did have a chance to hand weed four double rows of carrots and beets. Direct seeded crops like beets and carrots take extra care when it comes to weeds. They cannot be cultivated like transplanted crops until they reach a certain size, and by that time the weeds are growing right along with them. Although they do take extra energy, we feel they are worth the effort! The carrots you will be enjoying this week are out oof a hoophouse and were planted in late April. You won't see carrots again for a while, but they will reappear!
